Environmentally friendly driving

Due to a growing concern about the state of the environment, car manufacturers have been developing cars which produce less harmful emissions. Many cars are now running on electricity or liquid petroleum gas. Manufacturers such as Honda and Toyota have developed ‘hybrid’ cars which have dual fuel capacity.

This means that they can run on electricity or gasoline. And there are economical advantages to be had from these models: all electric cars are exempt from road tax and the congestion charge when in London. The Indian built Reva-G-Wiz is an electric car which costs just 1 pence per mile to drive. Considering that the average yearly mileage is 12000 miles, this would mean that a year’s driving on the Reva would cost just £120. The drawback with this model is that it isn’t designed for motorway driving with a top speed of just 40mph.

Another way you can save money and help make the air cleaner is by using liquid petroleum gas (LPG) as your fuel. You can have your engine converted for the cost of around £1000, and save pounds on the reduced price of fuel. There are about 1300 LPG filling stations nationwide and a litre costs about 35 pence.
