Covering what?

Car insurance protects drivers against liabilities resulting from accidents they cause. It is illegal to drive a car without insurance. The level of protection varies. It can cover only accidents involving a third person up to the motorist’s own car. There are two main types of coverage available.

Third party: protects you from any liability if you injure a third party or cause damage to his/her property. Furthermore, the Road Traffic Act obliges all drivers to be insured against third party liability. This policy usually covers:

  • Liability for injuries to others (including passengers).
  • Damage to other people’s property
  • Caravan accidents

  • Comprehensive cover: offers total protection for accidental damage, theft, fire and liability toward third parties.  This policy usually covers:

    • Liability for injuries and accidents to others (including passengers)
    • Damage to other’s property
    • Fire damage
    • Forced theft
    • Personal accident benefit (paid in case the policy holder dies or is permanently disabled)
    • Limited medical expenses
    • Loss or damage of personal property
    • Caravan accidents
