If your card is stolen

About one third of all credit card fraud comes from lost or stolen cards. There are ways to avoid credit fraud, such as by collecting receipts from card transactions and comparing these with monthly statements. For more information see how to avoid credit fraud.
In the event that your card goes missing or is stolen, you must report it as soon as possible. If money is spent on your card before you have cancelled it, in most cases you will only be liable to pay up to about 30 GBP. You will be issued with a new card and PIN number which normally arrives within one or two days.
How to avoid credit fraud:

    • Collect your receipts of transactions at the end of the month and compare them with your monthly statement. Unaccounted for outward payments can be easily identified and reported as fraud.
    • Always memorise your card’s pin number - under no circumstances leave a copy of the number in a wallet or purse with your card.
    • If your card gets lost or you believe it to have been stolen then report this to the credit card provider immediately.
