Access to Learning Funds

The first port of call for financial help during higher education is the Student Finance Direct Company. If you feel you need more support, then you may find help from your college, educational trusts, charities and other institutions.
Access to Learning Funds
This fund is available to some students and the amount available is decided by your college. Payments are usually in the form of grants which don’t have to be paid back, but can also be given as short-term loans. This fund usually supports students from low-income families who are having difficulty meeting course or living costs. The fund can also help students faced with unexpected financial crises or who may be considering giving up their course because of financial problems. Students considered a high priority for the Access to Learning Fund include those with children, disabilities, who have been in care and are from Foyers or are homeless. To find out if you qualify for this fund, visit the student support services at your university.
