A basic checklist
Checklist
A basic checklist for travel insurance It should cover you for: - The whole time you are away.
- Medical and health care, including 24 hour emergency service and assistance.
- Any activities and sports you might do. Some activities, such as jet skiing, are excluded from many policies. If requested, many insurers will extend cover, otherwise shop around for a specialist policy.
- Cancellation of travel and curtailment.
- Loss or damage to possessions.
- Personal liability.
Limitations of Insurance Policies Insurance policies have limitations such as age restrictions, the upper amount they are prepared to pay out for a claim, and pre-existing medical conditions. If you buy an annual policy, a policy which will cover your travel insurance over a year, make sure that you don’t overstep the age limit before the policy has expired. Further, make sure the destination you are travelling to is approved of by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Terrorism, natural disasters or disease pandemics can happen with astonishing speed. Prior to travelling, you can get useful global information on the destination that you are travelling to from http://www.fco.gov.uk/ as well as find out if it is approved to visit by the FCO. Once you have your policy be sure to keep a copy of it present when travelling and remember that policies can be invalidated if you are found to have been taking non-prescription drugs, or under the influence of alcohol. You will also be expected to take a reasonable level of care with your possessions, for them to be protected under any policy.
